I thought I was doing the right thing. I’d take a melatonin supplement before bed, drift off to sleep, and wake up… groggy. My morning cup of coffee provided a jolt, but it wasn’t enough. Just to get through the day, I found myself needing more and more caffeine, like from additional cups of coffee, sodas, or energy drinks.
But when bedtime rolled around, I found I couldn’t fall asleep without taking the melatonin – and even then, I’d do a lot of tossing, turning, and staring at the ceiling. And this cycle would start over again in the morning. It was exhausting, and I felt trapped in a never-ending loop.
What is the Caffetonin Trap?
It wasn’t until I learned about the concept of the “Caffetonin Trap” that I understood what was happening. In a nutshell, the melatonin supplement I was taking for sleep was causing me to wake up feeling groggy and not rested. To compensate, I was consuming extra caffeine during the day. However, excess caffeine makes sleeping at night more challenging (it’s a stimulant), which is why I would again turn to the melatonin at bedtime.
This is the Caffetonin Trap, a term that describes the pattern many people fall into when relying on both melatonin supplements and caffeine.
Here’s what I didn’t understand about melatonin. It’s a hormone our bodies produce in the evening to help us sleep better. We make only small amounts because by morning there should very little melatonin left in our system as we’re coming awake. If there’s too much melatonin remaining, you may feel groggy upon wakening or experience drowsiness during the day. By taking a melatonin supplement, my body was getting too much melatonin – which triggered the Caffetonin Trap.
Breaking the Cycle with TrueZs
Sleep troubles are becoming more common these days, and while I knew melatonin wasn’t the answer for me, I still needed a product that helped me sleep better. And I promised myself I would be more knowledgeable about what I put in my body next.
When I came across TrueZs, I was intrigued by its approach to sleep support – and it did not contain any melatonin. Here’s the three ingredients and what they do:
L-theanine – this amino acid is believed to provide the calming effect of green tea. In TrueZs, it helps your brain relax and calms your mind so you can fall asleep faster with less sleep disturbances during the night. Plus, it doesn’t cause morning grogginess.
Saffron – this spice extract helps support your body’s natural production of melatonin so it’s available when needed (preferable to giving your body extra synthetic melatonin it may not need from a supplement). This helps increase sleep quality and alertness upon awakening.
Ashwagandha – this herb helps the body better adapt to stress and promotes balance. The extract in TrureZs specifically helps promote the most rejuvenating type of sleep called restorative sleep. This helps you get a more restful sleep without daytime drowsiness.
My Experience with TrueZs
Since switching to TrueZs, I’ve noticed a difference in how I feel when I wake up. I no longer experience the grogginess I used to, and I have much more energy during the day. I don’t need all that extra caffeine in the afternoon to power through the day (I broke the cycle). I wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
If you’ve fallen into Caffetonin Trap, or are just looking to sleep better at night so you can feel better during the day, TrueZs is worth trying.
